Luke 1: 39-45
During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.
Today is St. Elizabeth's feast day.
When Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth, it brings about a great joy for both of them. So much so that the baby in Elizabeth's womb feels that joy too! She realizes that Mary is a woman of great faith who is being used as an instrument of God to bring about the birth of the savior of the world. The footnotes in my Bible say that Luke portrays Mary as a believer whose faith stands in contrast to the disbelief of Zechariah. Mary has a role of a believer in the infancy narrative.
The above words speak so much to the great faith of Elizabeth, and she notifies Mary of her own great belief. May we cultivate the belief that what is spoken to us by the Lord will be fulfilled.
